Ella Fontaine - Mezzo Soprano, Singing Teacher

Ella is a freelance singer and much sought after singing teacher. She runs a private practice in Stretford and has taught and conducted in primary and secondary schools privately and for the Music Service. Ella is currently studying speech and language therapy at the University of Manchester, as she has a particular interest in the science behind the voice and vocal technique. Upon completion of her studies, Ella plans to work as a voice specialist with professional singers and actors suffering from vocal problems and anyone needing voice rehabilitation.

Manx born Ella Fontaine is a Mezzo Soprano, singing teacher and choral conductor based in Manchester. She developed her love for music under the instruction of Susan Bowring on the Isle of Man. At age 16 she was cast in the Chorus of L’elisir D’amore directed by Ryland Davies for the Manx Opera Festival. Ella left the Island aged 18 to study International Development and Politics at the University of Leeds. Upon graduating she moved to Manchester trained as a professional singer with Tony Norton of the Three Irish tenors, and has had lessons with Andrew heggie, Rachel Nicholls and Antonia Sotgiu. She began a Postgraduate Diploma in Performance at the prestigious Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in September 2014, but soon realised she had the talent and expertise to specialise in other areas of voice, not solely performing.

In her performing career, past engagements included a recital in Huntly, Scotland celebrating the centenary of the composer Ronald Center as part of the ‘North East Scotland Sound festival’ in March 2014 where she performed a song cycle written by the living composer David Ward, as well as Ronald Center art songs. She sang the role ‘Mercedes’ in Bizet's Carmen with Opera 74 in July 2014 and the role of Alisa in Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor at the RNCM in October 2013 with Opera Seria. Ella regularly performs in recitals, galas and charity concerts across the North West and was invited to sing for the Didsbury Arts Festival in summer 2013. In 2011 Ella sang in a semi chorus in Elgar’s ‘Apostles’ with the Halle Choir at the Royal Albert Hall for the BBC proms.

Ella is passionate about learning and regularly attends CPD courses and events to keep abreast of the changes in the industry. She is a member of the British Voice Association and the International Society of Musicians.
